Spindle – one of the most ancient symbols of Ukrainian culture, symbol of life, temporality; backbone, on which the sky is turning; communication between different worlds. The compositional scheme of painting is based on the Ukrainian pattern of embroidery.

A thing, which we have always with us and which isn’t easy to get rid off – our mentality. The work was created around the theme “Hats” for an international exhibition in Taiwan.
“There lived once old man and old woman…”
The workis a figurative interpretation of one ancient and, on my opinion, mystical, Ukrainian fairy-tale «The Hen-Riaba”. The picture represents also a Trinity-idea in Ukrainian contents (old Man, old Woman and Egg) are sitting on the stove like standing before the iconostasis.
“Stealer of apples”
“Stealer of apples” is a metaphorical image, which appears in the dream of his old wife, who is waiting on him for a long time before the well. The apple is a symbol of virginity and maiden innocence while the water in the scoop is a transient substance without time and space.
